Piazzale Roma is a square in Venice and forms the entrance to the city. A short walk from Piazzale Roma led us to the beautiful red brick building that is the Frari Church. It is a tall, solid piece of Italian Gothic architecture. Its full name is the church of Santa Maria Gloriosa dei Frari.
The exterior is a solemn red brick affair which lends an air of stability. The scale is large and the only interruptions to the bricks are the windows, rather plain by Venetian standards. The interior is also quite sober with artwork and sculpture. There is a lot of use of wood, especially in the Choir of the Monks.
What it lacks in ostentatiousness, it makes up for in its grand scale.
